Analogue Vs Digital

Vinyl Records VS CD’s

Advantages of Vinyl:

  • Vinyl sounds better than CD’s.  It has that warm, mahogany – rich sound which vinyl is famous for. A lot of the music now a day are stored and broadcasted in a lossy format, where details are lost and quality is reduced.

  • Vinyl can make you money. When you purchase an mp3 song you merely just have the license for it but you can’t actually sell it because it’s not you’re song. However, Vinyl is your own purchased and you make an investment or you can pass it down to your children. This is proven because there’s an entire industry of people purchasing, collecting, and reselling vinyl.

Disadvantages of Vinyl:

  • The most obvious disadvantage would be the fact that the vinyl records are very easy to damage, as they’re fragile during playback. Any scratches or scraping of the surface can permanently compromise the sound quality.

  • The high quality vinyl record systems cost hundreds and even up to thousands of cash and this is way more expensive than investing in a high quality digital audio system. Especially even now a day, the vinyl records alone with the good hits are very pricey and rare. (That’s if you’re looking for one which actually works.)

Advantages of CD’s:

  • Cd’s are very cheap to produce.
  • Cd’s are small and portable.
  • Cd’s are fairly fast to access the data.

Disadvantages of CD’s:

  • Once content is burnt onto the cd, it cannot be removed.
  • Easily scratch able, fragile and easy to snap.
  • Data can be damaged easily- scratches, water damage etc.
