Connectivity
- What is your understanding of the term “connectivity”?
- Connectivity is the quality and capability of being connected. This is like trying to make friends or connect with different people in developing countries. Essentially, main idea to get LEC and developing countries to interactive with each other through the power of the internet. It can allow different cultures and religions to connect and learn more about each other and just be connected towards the people and to get involved with the society.
- What are Facebook Zero and Wikipedia Zero, and how do these work? Why are these thought to be good for developing countries?Facebook Zero and Wikipedia Zero is companies which have 0 charge free of data when using their apps. This allows them to browse the web with no charge fees. (Zero signifies free data). This is good for developing countries because it allows them to connect for free and since they might not be able to afford this (pay for data), it’s good they have zero data charge free. This can also bring different people or countries together through the free data connectivity plan.
- What other initiatives are taking place in developing countries, to encourage people to get online?
- Another initiative which is taking place in developing countries is in India where they’re trying to get more women to go and use the internet because there’s 200m internet users and they’re trying to get 50million women to go digital over the year. This is good because it allows women to start interacting with the social media and can allow them to educate off the internet, or just enjoy their time. They’re doing this by helping the women to get online by creating a website with a step by step guide to basically ‘how to use the internet, from computer basics to language preferences’. The second initiative is that they have create BRCK, a low cost modern designed for Africa. This allows them to switch between Ethernet cable, WI-FI and 3g/4g connection and they also installed a backup battery which can last for eight hours off grid.
- Do you agree with Zuckerberg's view that connectivity is a human right?I partially agree with him because it can be crucial in some point but this is opinionated. Connectivity is a really good feature for the modern day society because of the amount of racism and flaws or uneducated people in today’s life. Connectivity can help people share ideas and become connected and learn more about other people’s culture and religion or just generally get connected online. This could possibly stop some people’s viewpoints of racist or sexual because it can educate them if they connect with someone opposite them and therefore this would allow them to see that everyone is the same, we’re all human.
- How does your internet behaviour differ from five years ago? Many people now turn to the web for information on key services – are you among them?My internet behaviour has differed very much from five years ago. Five years ago, I would’ve been a bit less educated on how the internet runs but I believe I was very connected on the internet due to the online gaming system. But today I’m very educated with the internet because I have a lot of experience now and I know how to control my behaviour on the internet today.Yes, I am among them because the internet is a very useful place and has a lot of information for everyone to use and become educated in many different useful ways.
