Analogue – (Original) Physical playback device e.g. vinyl. Can ware

Digital – Hardware (copy) Non-physical playback device e.g. DVD

Research methods & techniques

Primary – Your own research (First hand); interviews, questionnaires, surveys, focus groups

Strengths:

Tailor the question to find out the answers you need.

Get in depth answers.

Original information so arguably more reliable.

Weakness:

Time consuming (more stages to process).

Expensive (staff costs).

Secondary – research from online (someone else). Second hand; social media, newspaper, Archive footage

Strengths:

Abundance of data available on the internet

Cheap (less staff, easier process to manage, less travelling)

Weakness:

May not answer your specific questions

Can be time consuming finding information.

Verifying someone else’s research is difficult (less reliable)

 

Quantitative – Numbers put in pie charts or surveys to put data into to gather information, e.g. the amount of 16 year olds in school etc. (Yes or No). (Statistics). Data which gives up an in depth opinion back.

Qualitative – E.g. tell me yes or no, then why? (No statistics) Options and Facts. Data which gives us a measure of what people think.
