Online Video(YouTube.com) &  Audio (audio books/music)

For online video I will be analysing  a specific You-Tuber called "Ssundee".
Ian Marcus Stapleton (born on December 2, 1988) otherwise known as 'Ssundee' on YouTube, is a You-Tuber who started mainly making videos revolved around a game called 'Minecraft', and in his videos he would play the game and make commentary videos of him doing specific things in the game, or new released mod packs for the game. He was born in Michigan, and raised in both Virginia and Louisiana most of his life, but he is now living in his old home in South Carolina. Later on he would rise in his fame for his successful gaming videos, and now has 8million subscribers on his channel on the YouTube Platform. However, through his fame and glory because of his  Minecraft videos, he would also start playing other games such as; Fortnite & Terra tech. This was so his channel would allow new games in and see whether if his viewers enjoyed them too, making sure that he just wants to try something new, but will never stop recording Minecraft videos.
Ssundee would record his early videos through having only just; his computer, recording software, the game and a microphone. He would record gameplays of himself playing the game while commentating over what he does and tries to make it entertaining. Which worked, as more and more viewers kept watching and then later he would vlog and eventually include face-cam on his videos too.
-

The mode of address he'd portray on his videos would simply just be the titles he'd add on his YouTube videos. These titles would be directed at viewers who'd look up similar keywords, or he'd make interesting titles and thumbnails for viewers on YouTube to click onto his video, and if they'd like his video he would mention in the video, to subscribe & hit the like button for more videos.
The target audience for his videos are directed at the younger age range, because his videos are all based of games and the popular game Minecraft is well known by millions of children who play it, from ages; 5+. Since Minecraft was new and millions of more players where joining, some needed videos for help or enjoyment and this would lead back to Ssundee's videos. In his early videos he would use swear words (not very vulgar or direct swearing), but as he realised his numbers have grown and more children where watching his videos, he stopped swearing completely in his videos or any other unsuitable material. His videos are funny videos and some are tutorial videos, showing his purpose for his videos is to entertain and educate audience (about the game).  However, this portrays the fact the mode of address is both informal and formal because he makes funny videos, but other videos is tutorial videos, either way it's not in sense of being very slang or moderate, it's just casual and just humorous. We can see the mode of address is represented as both first person because of the language he uses to talk about his own character and whatever he's doing in the game, but in some cases he will talk about other characters and talk in 3rd person, however, he's mainly just using direct address to his viewers (asking if they like the video, and thank you for the support etc) and then he narrates over his gameplays, which represent that he's using language such as 'narrative', and in both of these, you will need to use formal language in expressing specific features of something; making a tutorial as an example, but since he's a gamer and some sort of comedian, he may use informal language some of the times to get through to his audience, but it wouldn't be any swears or anything or FULL slang, just a one or two mentions of slang, as a joke.
-
The font & typography used for SSundee's videos are portrayed during the video, and from the thumbnail he posts. The thumbnail's font & typography, is always large and bold, with bright colours or eye appealing colours because this catches the audiences attention, and with having the font being bold + with bright colours it creates this more visual aspect out of the other videos on the side too. The typeface of font SSundee some what uses is like  'Coudy Stout' which is a very large font style. The colours such as white, yellow and red could connote that the video you're about to watch or click on is very enjoyable, and warming because yellow can connote happiness, and white can connote safety and purity which could draw  out the fact that the video is suitable for younger audiences. However, having bright colours and bold lettering, stylistic typography makes the video attractive and can gain more viewers alone just from the thumbnail. However, in some of his videos he would add transitions to fonts which fly out onto the screen for certain areas of the video, which is very good and could connote from the transition that something interesting is about to happen, as the transition creates tension.
-
The video layout is done constructively through recording each step of the video, and then also recording the commentary separately to get the best audio quality, and SSundee uses audacity and I know this because he made a video of how he records his videos. After he has all the material needed he would use a editing software such as Sony Vegas pro 13 (but I don't know how he exactly does everything, but this is how almost every YouTuber would do it too, as I've had experience on this too) and he would drag the recorded clips and the audio clip and he will sort out the layout, making sure anything needed to get cut out and he'd add transitions + music, but for the audio he will need to a-line it correctly with the video time (this usually takes the longest of times), however, overall he'll edit his videos which could take over more than 2 hours just to make sure its perfect. Although it may seem as SSundee posts a video everyday and he makes them on the same day, it's not this in most cases because in reality he records and edits multiple videos in one day and sets them up for the scheduled upload option on YouTube (automatically publically publishes the private video at the specific set times/date), however since his channel has started growing more and more and he has less time to edit while making multiple videos, he has got his own personal editor to edit his videos for him. With the videos you can see everything he says or does is in chronological order, and fits a straight layout. At the beginning he used to make his own thumbnails (just like editing), and normally this will be done using a software such as Photoshop, and you will create your own thumbnail so people click on your video more. However, later on he got someone to make his thumbnails for him, but shortly decided to make his them on his own because they're very simple to do; these thumbnails change every time for each video.
SSundee's videos always have a start, middle & end which show that his video layout is linear because he starts his video with an intro of "hello guys, today bla bla bla..." and then during the video, he does what he says and then at the end he does his outro or in some cases if it's a video on a series, it would be on a cliff-hanger, but in every video he'll still do an outro; "thanks for watching, like & subscribe".
-
In the video the different shots used varies because the shots are revolved around specifically the fact that viewers can see SSundee's webcam in the top left corner of the video, where the rest is the recording of the game he's playing. The face-cam of SSundee's doesn't move at all because it's set to a fixed position where we can see his face all the time throughout the video, and there's no real reason for him to move or for it to be in a different position during specific videos, such as; him just sitting there and playing the game, but if it's another reason for the end of the video such as when he plays the game and he has a competition against someone, and if there's a forfeit he's forced to move the camera positioning. In this video he has a competition and loses, therefore he grabs his handheld camera and places one camera on a tripod and the other his wife holds and records him doing the forfeit. However, this is added through editing and they upload the clips and merge it with the gameplay before. With the recording you can see him playing the game and it just records the window of the whatever program is open; this is done successfully through a recording software called "OBS - Short for; ' Open Broadcaster Software' which allows users to record their computer screen and it also allows users to live stream their computers direct to websites such as twitch.tv or Youtube.com/live (category).  With the recording software we can see the game he's playing and when he moves in game, we can see the different camera angling of the game, because of how the game is coded - which allows users to do full 360degree movement and with mine craft they have an option to change views of the characters game to first person and then third person.
-
The whole purpose of this is so viewers can feel like what they're watching makes sense and it allows viewers to understand and watch everything SSundee does and whatever he mentions, his audience will follow and then later on for future episodes, they can follow what's happening and how it's happened (videos with series). It's literally mainly just to entertain his viewers and him talking in first person allows his viewers to feel engaged, also when he intros his videos and outros his videos, he uses direct address saying things such as; "If you're enjoying the video make sure to like, so I know if I should still be uploading these types of videos" and " Guys, thank you so much for the feedback, you guys reach 100k likes last video...". Therefore, this allows his viewers to feel like they actually do something for him and makes them engage more with his videos and this builds a community, a family based around his channel.
The face-cam shows that he uses a medium mid shot and it allows us to see his facial expressions during the video, but sometimes when it's a silly moment or something other, the camera becomes the centre of attentions and fills the whole screen to show us his expression and then goes back into place; this is an extreme close up shot.

Audio is my second digital product I will be textually analysing, and with audio there's many sub-genres such as e-books, music, podcasts etc. However, I will be mainly focusing on audio such as Music because I believe its the easiest to work on and I feel like I will be able to textually analyse this successfully. This is because music crosses through a lot of different products, platforms, and has a deeper meaning than just 'audio' people listen too.
The musician and specific song I have chosen is a pop artist called 'Drake', and his song called 'Nice For What'.
-
Firstly, music was firstly invented near to the  beginning of time, but it was improved and recorded at the year of 1000 CE by someone called 'Guido D'Arezzo', who created many improvements in the music history from reworking standard notation to become more "friendly" through adding their signatures to the music. He was the first to invent the vocal note scales known as 'Solfege', which is known as; do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do. However, as music grew and improved, one of the first ever persons to make the first song was a French Printer called Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville, the person who invented the earliest known sound recording known as 'phonautograph'. However, music firstly developed from the normal audio from the machine called 'mechanical phonograph cylinder' created by the famous inventor, Thomas Edison, in 1887, but this developed through the ages of time through instruments such as pianos, guitars, drums, flutes etc. and then the famous genres of music was created. Genres such as; Reggae , Pop , Electronic dance, Rock, Blues, Jazz, classical, hip hop and many more.
-
Aubrey Drake Graham better known as 'Drake' is a Canadian musician who works in the genres of rap & hip hop, however, he's not just a rapper... He's a singer, songwriter, record producer, actor and an entrepreneur because with his music, he records his rap songs and creates music videos for them and uploads them to the same platform as spoken about before for SSundee... YouTube, but he doesn't only upload and earn from the millions to billions of viewers who watch and listen to music on YouTube, he also publishes it on other platforms such as Spotify and Apple music. However, his music is so popular he also distributes them to stores such as JD or on Radio, who play his music in the background and he gets paid for this.
-
The style/mode of address portrayed in drakes music is represented through the thumbnails of videos, the album cover, and what the music lyrics connote.  The style is obviously hip hop and rap, but the mode of address of his music is informal because he's rapping, and when rapping he uses slang and his wording connote to something other than what they'd actually portray. In his music you would just listen simply and enjoy the beats and rhythm, but not really pay attention to the lyrics, but with this song you can hear that the lyrics talk about relationship, and someone not caring or taking the correct/appropriate approach towards their relationship. Therefore, this portrays the fact that he clearly than speaks in 3rd person because he's always referring to someone else, or another point of time in his past life. However, since he's rapping about it, it's really considered as 2nd person, narrative, but you can really tell that in rap video like his others, relate to his emotions as it talks about relationship problems.
-
The Font style and type drake uses for his videos title sequence is just simple, non bold, non large text, but it's all in capital letters, and the lettering looks similar to Greek or sans serif (I do not know the specific name), but with this typography, you can see that they've clearly made in all capitals and style puts a theme on the lettering for an example; the A is represented as a triangle, and the letters are spaced which allow audiences to see it more clearly, and since it's thin and the composition of the title sequence is placed in the middle of the screen, it directs the name directly towards the viewers eyes and makes the title sequence the viewers point of focus. The colours used is pink which could connote relationship, love or girls etc. Which is proven because the denotations throughout the video of the imagery and lyrics, portray love, girl and relationships. With this font style, Drake uses a flying out transitions to put the text right on the screen from no where, and then it ripples out and fades into another title sequence. This type of font for his album is bold and blocky, and the colour is in white which could connote heaven or peace, but it still holds the same colours and connotations of relationship and love, because the images on it is a girl and it's shaded in the colours of pink and in the cover of the album, drakes own name is small, but the title of the song is very large, this is so viewers see this more and search it more up which will make it bigger, because a lot more people will search that up alone just to find out what it actually means.
-
The camera angling and page lay out has been set specifically just like SSundees, because they use the same platform for distribution, but with recording audio, things have to be in chronological order; so recording audio and editing, then playing over and getting to perfection. After, playing the music back while recording the visual music video and lip syncing over, after getting it properly, with the different angles and shots needed; which is portrayed through the video, because in the music video you can see the different angles, of close ups, long shots, pan shots, free-hand and then the transitions applied as well to the editing after, colour framing, lighting, cut away, voice over- (drake  rapping over the dancers dancing), jump cuts etc. These would all be recorded separately and then some together, and edited together in orderly fashion. This is the same with the audio of music you can hear because each set vocal note & sound is set chronologically, from the instruments, the tweaking, singing, bass/beat, piano and things such as backing trackers, all are recorded separately, one by one, even parts of the song are recorded over and over, until perfection and then these are all edited together and then the create the main beat for the musician to rap/sing over, which does happen before all in a studio. With the page layout, you can see the video adds description and a title to intrigue viewers since millions of people know Drake already, the title is 'Drake - Nice For What'. By adding his name first and then the dash to the song name, allows audiences and consumers to see what the name of the song and to judge whether it's most likely going to be something good, because of the artist they already know or at least heard of, but if not, they can see the Artist than the name. They have transitions for the font as said before, for the title sequence where the font appears from no where to tell viewers the song name and who it's by, and then it fades out and fades in, to the next title sequence and so forth. They even use shots such as match on action and slowed motion and speeded up, which creates tension and gives the music video more meaning by slowing down certain areas so people look out for what/why it's slowed.

By adding in the description and at the end of their videos, they advertise other platforms where to purchase and what to purchase on and by writing the link in descriptions and giving referrals, this allows them to advertise their music on the other companies, giving the sponsorship and referral to the company; drawing in audiences on their platforms to listen to their music, both earning money both ways. Their main purpose would be to make everyone listen to Drake new album, but to show case on of their hit songs and then mention you can listen on other famous audio apps too such as "Spotify or Apple Music", and this will make their music grow more because people listen to it more, and since Drake makes people go onto other platforms, they pay drake too (sponsorship). However, its not that alone, because by other people listening on other platforms as well as YouTube, it advertises and makes Drake's new song wider and bigger, appealing to a larger audience market and then influences audiences to listen or buy the whole album/song if they'd like it, and listen on the go.
At the end of drakes music on YouTube, he even adds hyperlinks to back to his channel so people can watch more videos and even subscribe, and then he also links another one of his previous/latest songs/music videos.

Summary:

In both products they share very similar writing styles, images and layouts, because starting with the fact that both products share their content on the same platform, and to do this you must film and record, edit and decide what font to use and the colours, how to record music/audio (commentary) and implement them. With Drake, the audio is recorded in a studio for better quality with very good microphones, and they use pop filters and sound mufflers, and then when recording the video the play the audio over the lip sync and edit it too perfection. With SSundees video he wants the best quality of audio too, where he uses a good microphone, and a pop filter; he also records his audio separate from the visual video, using audacity and then he edits it to the lip sync for the perfect video with perfect recording quality, angling, audio and editing. With drakes video, he uses writing styles which is simple, but it's effective because it appeals to audience with it's capital & spaced lettering; using the colour of pink which stands out more than other colours such as black, because it's bright and more visual, just like with SSundee, who uses big bold lettering, but during his video he uses cool fonts like Drake, and bright, vibrant colours to appeal to his audience and grab more attention.

However, the images used is different in both because the images used in drakes videos is of women and they mainly talk about how the women are treated through relationships; how the men says they'd do this and that, but do differently and the content is more explicit. Whereas, in SSundees videos it's of him playing a child's game, which straight away portrays the differences between both; one of a game and the other of a women dancing. The content and language SSundee uses Verses Drake is not explicit and is it's rated for children, but drakes is explicit, since he uses swears and other features in his videos.

However, with both videos and audios as said before, the layouts are both same because they contrast their videos through editing and visuals are recorded separate from audio and then edited later by a professional, just like SSundee has someone else to edit his videos, but he records his own audio and Drake records his own, but someone else edits it. With both you can see that the camera angles they use are always around different characters and doesn't stay in one place, it features the artist and youtuber doing it and commentating, but it also includes the opposite story amongst it too; In SSundees video he's playing games, and you can see his face & in some cases he would move and the camera angle will change, because it comes of direct webcam, to a second one on the side with other people and he watch's their viewpoint too, and in Drakes video you see him during the video doing things and singing, but the camera pans and does close ups and is free hand and focuses itself on the other actors, mainly the girls who are dancing.
